Both of the assessment elements in stage 2 (Tasks and Other Evidence) incorporate the Curriculum Framer rubric tool. Creating excellent rubrics is quick and easy with this tool.
To begin, open stage 2 of the advanced template by clicking on the orange stage 2 divider bar. Then open up either the Tasks or Other Evidence section. If you haven't created either a Task or Other Evidence, create one now. Once you have an assessment ready, reveal the details by clicking the title.
Open the rubric section by clicking on the Rubrics subheading. From here you have two non-exclusive options: "Add Existing Trait" and "Create a New Trait". You can design your rubric using either or both.
An existing trait is one that has been pre-made by either you or a site administrator. These can be imported directly into your unit with very little effort. To add one, just click the "Add Existing Trait" link. The pop-up box opens and a list of traits is displayed.
Most likely, there is more than one page of traits to choose from. You can switch the visible page by clicking the blue page numbers in the upper right. Select as many of the traits as you like, then click the "Update" button. The pop-up closes and your new chosen traits appear in grey in the rubrics section.
You can edit the text or title of any of the imported traits using the red edit links. You can also add new levels to the imported trait.
You can also make rubric traits from scratch. You'll give the trait a title, and define each level of the trait. Start by clicking the "Create a New Trait" link, located directly under the Rubrics subheading. The pop-up box opens and prompts you to enter a title for the trait. Name the trait then click the "Add" button. You new trait appears in the list of traits.
From here, you'll use the red editing links to add levels to your trait. Click the "Add New Level" link. The pop-up opens and prompts you to title the trait level and then describe the type of student performance expected at this level. Click the "Add Level" button to continue. The pop-up closes and the new level appears beneath the trait title. Repeat this process until you've created all the level necessary.
Once you've added at least one trait, you'll notice that a green "R" in a circle appears in the upper right corner of the assessment. This is an indicator icon to help designers quickly see the completeness of their assessments.
