Aligning Stage 2 Evidence to Stage 1 Desired Results

Previous Topic   |   Next Topic   |  Return to Contents

Once you have created a Task or Other Evidence, you should align it to your Desired Results from Stage 1. Alignment, in this case, demonstrates that you have a way to assess whether students have met the standards identified, grappled with essential questions, or grasped a particular understanding. Although a one to one ratio is not usually necessary, when you complete stage 2, every stage 1 element should be aligned to at least one of the assessments.

To use the alignment tool, click on the black, underlined title of a Task or Other Evidence to expose the details. Sometimes an extra click is necessary. You'll see 5 new sections listed beneath the title. Click on the section titled Alignment.

Now you will see listed each of the stage 1 elements, with a red "edit" link in front of the names. To align the Task or Other Evidence to any of these stage 1 elements, just click the corresponding "edit" link. For example, click the edit link in front of Essential Questions. The pop-up box will open and you will see all of the Essential Questions entered in stage 1 listed. Place a check in the boxes in front of each Essential Question that this Evidence assesses. Then click the "Update" button.

The pop-up box closes and you'll see the roman numerals that correspond to the chosen Essential Questions listed horizontally next to the Essential Questions title. If you move your mouse cursor over the roman numerals, the text of the Essential Question will appear in the grey bar below the list of alignments.

Repeat this process for each of the stage 1 elements.

Note that the Standards pop-up works a bit differently than the others. The orange bar across the top lists the different standards documents you chose standards from. Click the titles of the documents to view the standards chosen from them.

You'll notice that a gold check mark has appeared on the right side of the title area of the assessment. This indicates the presence of at least some alignment in this task.
