Essential Questions and Understandings get a more in-depth treatment in the advanced template. You'll be able to add both unit level elements, which are EQs and understandings that pertain to this unit only, as well as overarching elements, which are EQs and understandings that are repeated throughout a subject, grade, course, or series of units.
To add a new essential question or understanding, open the stage one section of the advanced template. Then click the "+Add New" link next to either the Essential Question or Understanding header. The template pop-up box will display and ask you to choose which type of element you wish to add -
unit level or
overarching. Make your choice and click the "Choose" button.
If you choose
unit level, just enter your question or understanding into the provided text box and click the "Add" button. Your new element will appear beneath the section title.
If you choose
overarching, you'll be presented with a slightly more complicated form. In the orange bar across the top, you'll see links to program level, grade level, course level, and user level lists of elements. Click through each screen and identify the overarching element(s) that pertain to this unit. When you've finished identifying any overarching elements you wish to use in this unit, click the "add" button and the new elements will appear beneath the section title.
You can edit, sort, or delete unit level essential questions and understandings by clicking the red control icons next to the elements.
For overarching elements, you'll only be able to sort or delete. You cannot change the text of an overarching element. (That requires framework-edit permission).
