Adding UbD Elements in the Simple Template

Previous Topic   |   Next Topic   |  Return to Contents

Once you've created a unit, the next step is to start adding elements (goals, assessments, and learning events). The template is divided into the three UbD stages, labeled stage 1,2, and 3. Beneath each of the orange bars that divide each stage, there is a link to add a new element.

The Simple Template

To add a stage 1 element, click the "Add New Stage 1 Element" link. A pop-up window appears which asks you to designate which type of stage 1 element this will be (essential question, understanding, knowledge, or skill) and to enter the text of the element. Click the "Add" button; the pop-up box will close and your new element will appear beneath the orange Stage 1 divider. The element is preceded by an icon with the initials of the type of element added.

In stage 2, the add new element pop-up box will again ask you to designate the type of element, this time assessments - either Task or Other Evidence. Additionally you will need to title your assessment and provide a description of the assessment. Click the "add" button and your new assessment will appear beneath the orange stage 2 divider preceded by the associated icon.

The only stage 3 element type is the learning event, so you will not need to choose the element type when you add a new stage 3 element. Just title and describe the event and click "add". Your new element appears in the list beneath the orange stage 3 divider.
