Any of the units in a user's portfolio can be promoted to "master" status. The process creates a duplicate copy of the user's unit and moves the new copy into the master units list where all users can find it.
How to Promote a Unit:
To promote a unit found in the "My Units" section of the unit portfolio, click the red "promote" icon next to the unit. You will be asked to confirm the promotion and identify the type of master unit that will be created.
There are three types of master units: Normal, EQ Focus, and Mini. Most often you will choose "normal". EQ Focus units focus on one or two essential questions rather than a full range of stage 1 elements. Mini Master units are incomplete skeletons or quick drafts that need to be fleshed out with specifics by the teacher who intends to use it in the classroom.
How to "Demote" a Unit, or remove it from the master list:
Sometimes it is decided that a master unit needs additional thought or revision. Other times an administrator may decide that a unit simply doesn't belong on the list of master units. Whatever the reason, its easy to remove units from the master units list.
Go to the master unit section of the unit portfolio. Find the unit you want to remove from the list and click the red "Demote" button to the right of the title. The unit will be moved into "My Units." You can make changes to the unit and re-promote it to master (using the red "promote" icon) if you like.
