The Unit Portfolio: Master Units

Previous Topic   |   Next Topic   |  Return to Contents

Master Units are units that are pre-loaded into Curriculum Framer by Authentic Education or have been designated as exemplary by an administrator. Not all master units are complete. Some masters are meant as starting points for each teacher to build upon - these units will have the word "MINI" on their icon. Others are focused on one or two essential questions and will have the letters "EQ" on their icons.

You can access the available master units from the "My Units" section of the unit portfolio. Click the "Get Master" link towards to top of the page. A list of the existing master units will be displayed.

You can inspect template of the units in the "Master Units" list by clicking on their titles. The unit will be opened in "view only" mode. Editing is not possible in the view only mode.

Copying Master Units:
From the view only template, you can copy the unit into your "My Units" list by clicking the red "Make Mine" icon on the left side of the page. You can also copy the unit directly from the master units list by clicking the "Make Mine" icon to the right of the unit. Curriculum Framer will create a brand new copy of the master unit and it will appear in your "My Units" list. You can now make changes to the unit, and your changes will not affect the original master unit.

Making Notes in a Copied Master Unit:
If you use the notes sections in the template of a copied master unit, the notes you make will appear in the "Community Notes" section. Every designer that has also made a copy of the master unit will see the notes you leave, and you will be able to see they create too. This allows teachers to compare their impressions and experiences teaching the unit with one another.
